Junior Training 2010

Instruction on the courses:

GSC is committed to the promotion of sailing and courses are run on a break even basis. All GSC Training Courses are designed to offer tuition where instructor ratios are high and a maximum of two trainees per boat (Junior) to optimize learning and experience on the water. The ISA maintain a high standard in all accredited training centres and in Greystones trainees are awarded certificates on the basis of ability rather than days spent on a course e.g. GSC 'Level 4 graduates' will have covered the ISA syllabus for the modules but in addition will be confident sailors in a Force 5.

GSC will be running three Junior Training Courses in 2010.

  • Course 1: June 7 -18th Teenagers Levels I & II only using Club or own boat
  • Course 2: June 21st - July 9th Age 10+ All levels
  • Course 3: July 12th - 30th Age 10+ All levels

 Course Times:

The course runs from 9:30am to 5pm each day. The Club cannot be held responsible for the children's welfare outside these hours.

The Instructor team meet at 9am to plan the sessions for the day and prepare the equipment which is very difficult if there are children listening in or parents wanting a word. Similarly, the instructor team all need to leave at 5pm.

We would be grateful if you would adhere to these times and give at least a day's notice if your child is to be dropped off late or collected early as all participants may be on the water.

There may be days when weather conditions prevent trainees going afloat and they are allowed to go home early if there is someone at home to take care of them - however there will always be an activity at the Club until 5pm on such days.

If you are dropping your son or daughter by car, it may be advisable to drop them at the end of the lane as the area outside the club can become congested with boats, cars and children.

 Level IV Modules:

Following consultation with Juniors and Instructors over the winter, there will be some changes to the GSC approach to 'Level IV'. Many trainees and instructors felt that 3 weeks of 'Go Racing 1 or 2' was too much. With that in mind, this year all Level IV trainees will get an opportunity to try Advanced Boat Handling, Kites and Wires 1 and Go Racing 1. Ideally you will spend a week on each. In addition to using your own RS Fevas and RS200s, the Club GP 14 will also be used to learn symmetrical spinnaker skills and a Laser Vago for trapezing and asymmetrical work.

Check here for more information about this year's courses.

Download an application form and return it before June 18th  for course 2  before June 30th. for course 3
