Commodores Cup
To mark Chris's Commodore's Reception this season, we’re using the occasion to lure back as many past, present, and mysteriously vanished sailors and families as possible for a proper club family day.
Naturally, this involves sailing.
Inspired by the 24-hour heroics of 24 Hours of Le Mans — but with slightly more mercy — we’ve negotiated Chris down to a six-hour Le Mans–style relay race.

Instructions:
- 6hr race 10:30 - 16.30
- Clubhouse open from 09:00 with tea and coffee
- Briefing 09:30
- Captains/first crews
- First gun: 10.25
Race Course:
- Square race course, one mark will be close to the club-house.
- All marks to be left to Port.
- Start line:
- Will be near the club-house, between the nearest mark and an anchored rib.
- Flags and sound signals from club balcony.
- 5-4-1-GO.
- Finishing:
- Boats will finish when they cross the finish line after 16:30.
- Finish line will be between the clubhouse and the nearest mark of the course.
- Laps will be counted when a boat passes between the orange Clubhouse pole and the nearest mark of the course.
Change-over of crews:
- Team captains to decide on the timing and selection of crews & changeovers.
- Changeovers to take place on water at an anchored rib in the middle of the upwind leg. Sailors will be ferried by rib from a temporary pontoon in the harbour to this changeover rib.
- All team members must do at least one lap.
- Change-overs will be communicated on VHF Channel 72 between the ribs and captains.
Scoring/Results:
- A boat's finish position will be determined by how many PY-adjusted laps they complete during their race-time (race time is the 6+ hours between starting & finishing).
- Results will be displayed via live feed throughout the day.
- Prizes/Protests will be adjudicated by the race committee. Boats taking themselves too seriously will be called out. Bribes readily accepted.
Entertainment:
- Soups & rolls for competitors & volunteers from 12:00.
- Leinster v Bordeaux from 14.45 in the clubhouse.
- Catered evening meal for sailors, volunteers, members and guests 4-6pm.
- High Quality Prize-Giving at 17:30.
- Bar open throughout the day and into the evening.
